Dolly-Parton
Dolly Parton, who was born in Locust Ridge Tenn. on the 19th of January. 19. 1946 to a poor family with 12 kids eventually included, discovered early that she could get away from suffering through her vivid imagination. The songs she wrote were composed before she was able to write and read. The first time she picked up a guitar was when she was just 8 years old and began singing on a Knoxville Tenn radio station at the age of 11. In the following year, she made her first album with Gold Band Records an independent small-scale label. At the age of 16, she was able to establish herself within the local community, however her ambition was bigger. The day she was able to graduate from high school, in 1964. Dumb Blonde (both 1967) and Something Fishy were among her first Monument Records chart-topping records. Porter Wagoner's syndicated TV show was in need of the services of a new singer by this time. Parton joined RCA Records and then joined the Grand Ole Opry. She accepted her job in 1967. It was not until 1974 that she decided to leave Wagoner's show because the success of her individual records such as Joshua Coat, Many Colors and Jolene was outstripping their joint efforts. The song by Parton, I Will Never Have Love for You (for Wagoner), was able to reach the number. #1 spot following their split. The first time it reached the top spot was in 1974.
