Selena Quintanilla Perez (Spanish pronunciation, [se'lenakinta'nija'peres]; April 16th, 1971 - March 31st 1995) Also known as Selena is an American Tejano performer. The name was coined for her as the "Queen of Tejano music" her contributions to music and fashion helped make her one of most well-known Mexican-American entertainers in the second half of the 20th century. Billboard magazine placed her at third in the year 2020, on their "Greatest Latino Artists of All Time", which was built on Latin music as well as Latin albums. Her attire have earned her the moniker "Tejano Madonna". Her fashion choices are what gave her the name "Tejano Madonna" by the media. Quintanilla, Suzette Quintanilla. In the 80s, she frequently criticized for singing Tejano music that was a male-dominated music genre. She was also refused performances at Texas venues. But her popularity increased following her win of the Tejano Music Award for Female Vocalist of the Year in 1987. She won repeatedly. She was signed to EMI Latin in 1989 and made her debut album with her own name in the same year. At the time, her brother became her primary music producer and songwriter.Selena has released Entre a Mi Mundo (1992) which reached top of the US Billboard Regional Mexican Albums chart for eight consecutive months. It was praised by critics for being the "breakthrough" album of her musical career. "Como la Flor" is one of the singles, became her most adored hero song. Live! Live! In 1994, she came out with Amor Prohibido, which became one of the top-selling Latin albums sold in the United States. It was praised by critics as being responsible for Tejano music's first period of commercialization because it became one the most popular Latin music subgenres at the time.
